Local Garlic Scapes, Extravaganza!, and Kutztown Folk Festival

We’re heading into a big weekend! Renninger’s Kutztown is having their June Antiques and Collectibles Extravaganza starting tomorrow, June 28th, at 10:00 AM. At the same time, the Kutztown Folk Festival begins Saturday, June 30th and runs all week long. That means a lot of people will be coming into Kutztown this weekend, and hopefully, many of them will come into the Market for food, fun and vinegar.

In vinegar news, we just bottled our first batch of local garlic scapes infusion. Garlic scapes (pictured right) are the long, winding flower part of the garlic that grows above ground. Scapes have a pungent, peppery garlic flavor that has become a sought-after spice in contemporary cuisine. This batch of garlic scapes was provided by Green Acres Farm in Kutztown. They sell their produce at Renninger’s, so you really can’t get much more local than this: they’re just on the other side of the Market.

We also just bottled our latest batch of hot cherry pepper infusion. Hot cherry has become our most popular pepper flavor, but this batch is extra, extra HOT! We doubled the pepper input to see what would happen. This batch is for real!
